SLIMBRIDGE WETLAND CENTRE
SLIMBRIDGE WETLAND CENTRE
Slimbridge Wetland Centre is located in Gloucestershire close to the River Severn. These 325 hectares of world-class wetlands are alive with birds in winter. During January winter bird numbers are usually at their peak with up to 30,000 wild wintering ducks, geese, swans and waders. These can be viewed and photographed from several observation towers and hides that overlook the wild areas. While on the Rushy Pen the famous Bewick’s swans congregate, having migrated here from Russia for the winter. The swans are a fantastic subject to photograph as the individual families compete for space on the water and jostle for position ahead of the daily wild bird feeds. Inside the fox-proof fence lies a network of pools and lakes that are home to both captive and wild birds, which allow close encounters and the ability to get creative with your photography.
