Join us for an inspiring weekend with one of the world’s foremost travel and advertising photographers, Philip Lee Harvey. Together we will immerse ourselves in everything from composition to how it is possible to find inspiration in everything from music to art. You will also receive concrete tips and exercises to find and develop your own imagery.

Whether you are photographing wildlife in Kenya for a travel magazine or a large scale advertising campaign for British Airways, one of the most important qualities as a travel and advertising photographer is to be able to adapt to any given assignment, no matter what you like to photograph. Philip’s broad experience will give you new insights 
into everything from how to understand and control light in your images to finding inspiration for your next photo trip or photo assignment.
One of the most important components of Philip´s images are his unique use light, and during the course we will learn how he  works and how he convey emotions. During our days together we will alternate between inspiring lectures with hands on demonstrations from Philip in the field.  There will also be time for image editing and image reviews with constructive feedback from Philip. Our days together end with challenging tasks that will put our creativity to the test and develop us as photographers.

ITINERARY

ITINERARY

ITINERARY • June 9-11, 2023

DAY 1 – INTRODUCTION & INSPIRING TALKS
Gathering in the morning at Hotel Vann, where you will be met by Philip Lee Harvey and a host from Zoom Fotoresor. The course begins with a lecture by Philip describing how he works as one of the world’s leading travel and advertising photographers. He will show pictures from around the world and give you a first insight into everything from lighting, composition and finding inspiration. He will also tell you about how your photography can be infuenced  by everything from music to movies. He will also talk about the key points in his own visual development,  something that has been crucial for him when it comes to succeeding in an industry with a lot of competition.

Afterwards it is time to go out and photograph in the inspiring surroundings around the hotel and focus on one of the most important parts of photography, the composition. With practical examples Philip how he uses different elements of the surroundings to both compose according to classical compositional rules and how the picture can be made more interesting if you sometimes break the rules. With different lenses in his camera bag, he will also show how he can compose on the same subject in different ways . After that, you will get to try it on your own. Before dinner, Philip will brief us on the tasks ahead  for the morning   followed by a joint dinner when there will be plenty of time for questions and discussions. DAY 2 – LIGHTING & COMPOSITION
The day begins with your own photography in the morning light according to the brief set by Philip the night before. After breakfast we will devote ourselves to understanding light, wich is  one of the things that has made Philip such a sought after photographer.You will learn about how light can change the feeling in an image and help you highlight what you want to convey. With examples from different situations and using both natural and artificial light, you will learn how to be in control whilst remaning creative.  Among other things, Philip will demonstrate how you can create an evening feeling in a room despite the fact that the picture is taken in the middle of the day. You will get to see both how he photograph in existing light and what results a little extra artificial light can give depending on how much and where you place the light. 

After lunch, it’s time to go back out and photograph in the local surroundings around the hotel and focus on composition.  Philip will show, with practical examples how he uses different elements of the surroundings to both compose according to classical rules and how the picture can be made more interesting if you sometimes break these rules.  Back at the hotel, we load the day’s photo harvest into your computers and spend time edition. In addition to Philip giving individual editing tips, he’ll also talk about his own workflow . We finish the day with a joint dinner. (F, L, M)

DAY 3 – PHOTOGRAPHY & EDITING
In the morning it is time for one last photo session before we devote the remainder of our time to image processing and Philip will walk around and give individual editing tips. The course ends with Philip giving constructive feedback on a number of pictures submitted by the you and then handing out the prize for ”the picture of the trip” which goes on to the final Zoom competition ”picture of the year 2022” where the first prize is a gift card of SEK 5,000:-. Philip Lee Harvey is a multi award winning travel photographer and winner of the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year. He believes photography should convey the emotion of places and people rather than functioning simply as a descriptive guide. He has spent the past 20 years perfecting his art and has worked in over 120 countries in environments ranging from Antarctica to the Sahara desert. Apart from an award winning photographer, our tours are always accompanied by a tour leader from Zoom with good photo knowledge. Our tour leader will handle all logistics and general matters and make sure you’re having the best possible experience.
