DESTINATION INFO

DESTINATION INFO

CHAMONIX WITH MONT BLANC

Chamonix is often called the “capital of the Alps.” Surrounded by steep cliffs and with enchanting nature, Chamonix is well embedded in the Alpine Massif. Right on its doorstep, Europe’s most powerful mountain massif reaches for the sky, with Mont Blanc and huge glaciers as its main focal points. This, combined with the valley offering some of the Alps’ best nature experiences, is a perfect starting point for landscape photographers.

THE VALLEY OF VERZASCA

The beautiful valley of Verzasca is located very close to the Italian border and Lake Maggiore. The Verzasca River, with its clear, turquoise waters flows along the smooth mountain formations through the valley, is the perfect destination for landscape photography. The streaming water of the river, which flows into natural ponds, waterfalls and large rocks that have been polished and shaped over time by the emerald-green water, makes for endless motifs for your camera.

TOUR ITINERARY

TOUR ITINERARY

TOUR ITINERARY • October 12 – 18, 2019

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN MILAN

At lunchtime we gather at Malpensa Airport in Milan. Here we are met by Hans Strand and a tour leader from Zoom Photo Tours. We leave Italy’s second largest city and via the beautiful Lake Como enter Switzerland to the small town of Contra. After checking in at our hotel and a late lunch, we start with a presentation where Hans tell us some things to keep in mind during the first photo session of the trip. Thereafter we go towards Lavertezzo to catch the soft evening light and to get a taste of the landscape that awaits us in the days to come. Swirling waters, beautiful stone formations and magnificent mountains. Wherever we direct our cameras, there are plenty of motifs to put your creativity to the test. In the evening we eat a nice welcome dinner at the hotel. (L, D)

DAY 2-3 – PHOTOGRAPHY IN VERZASCA VALLEY

Under Hans’s guidance, we explore the valley and its beautiful surroundings. We follow the river and move with our cameras in hand among stones that have been polished and shaped by the emerald green water over time. Hans will give tips and advice throughout the day on everything from how to take advantage of the landscape to create depth in your photos, to how to use long shutter speeds to create impactful pictures of the streams and the waterfalls. Between the photo sessions we will work with image processing, and discuss each other’s photos. (B, L, D)

DAY 4 – SWITZERLAND TO FRANCE

After a last morning photo session in the Verzasca Valley, we continue the journey into France. Lunch along the way is paid individually, on location. Next to the mythical Mont Blanc massif is Chamonix, one of the Alps’ most famous ski and hiking resorts and a perfect starting point for our photo expeditions. After checking in at Hotel Gustavia, we spend the afternoon and evening taking pictures in the valley looking up towards the 4,810 meters high mountains and glaciers winding down towards the valley. (B, D)

DAY 5 – CHAMONIX

Before it’s time for another day of amazing photo opportunities, Hans will hand out some assignments to challenge your creative thinking. As we hike in the beautiful landscape around the highest mountains of the Alps, we get the opportunity to photograph turquoise glacial lakes, steep rock walls, deep green valleys and snow-capped mountain peaks. During our hike we will make several photography stops together, where Hans will inspire us by showing us “hands-on” how his mind works as he’s creating his images. When we finally reach our goal, the beautifully located lake Lac Blanc, we will, with a bit of luck, have the opportunity of photographing Mont Blanc and Les Aiguilles as these mountains are reflected in the lake’s shiny waters like a mirror. There are no group plans for the evening, so you will make your own dinner plans. (B, L)

DAY 6 – HELICOPTER TOUR

After breakfast we begin with the presentation of yesterday’s photo assignment followed by photo criticism from Hans, intended to help develop your skills. From here we walk to the legendary cable car that will take us up to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi. In just 20 minutes, we move from the heat of the village up to the glacier landscape of 3,842 meters above sea level. From here, the view of the valley, the glaciers and Mont Blanc is breath-taking. Mont Blanc is with its 4,810 meters the tallest mountain in Western Europe and both the mountain and the surroundings offer spectacular views and plenty of photo opportunities. On the way down with the cable car, when we couldn’t possibly imagine the photo opportunities to get any better, it’s time for one of the absolute highlights of the trip. With a helicopter we now have the opportunity to photograph the mighty Mont Blanc massif from the air, an experience that provides a completely new photo perspective and we fill our memory cards with pictures we could hardly even dream of. (B, L, D)

DAY 7 – VAL FERRET AND DEPARTURE

On the last day of the trip, we leave France and via the Mont Blanc tunnel get to the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Here we make one last photo stop in the beautiful valley of Val Ferret, where we get the opportunity to photograph the beautifully autumn-coloured larch trees with Mont Blanc as a backdrop. After lunch, we continue towards Milan and Malpensa airport for your transportation back home. (B, L)
