PORTRAITPHOTO IN
SCOTLAND
WITH PHOTOGRAPHER SANDRA HALLNOR
COUNTRY: Scotland PHOTO TYPE: Portrait LENGTH: 5 days DATES: Nov. 3-7, 2026 PARTICIPANTS: 7/8
For me, Scotland is all about the contrast between the raw, dramatic landscape and the dreamy, almost fairytale-like feeling in the portraits I create. Stepping out onto the heather-covered moorlands, surrounded by towering mountains and roaring waterfalls, fills you with awe. Working with light, composition, and models in this extraordinary environment is an experience that not only inspires and challenges you, but also sharpens your eye and helps you grow, both in your visual style and as a photographer.
Sandra Hallnor
Perhaps it is the Highlands’ mysterious and dramatic beauty—or the way the landscape is not merely a backdrop, but adds an extra dimension, power, and energy to every portrait. Here, you and your camera are met by misty valleys, towering mountains, legendary lochs, rushing waterfalls, and wind-swept moors. Places that invite both grand scenes and intimate portraits.
Over five intensive and inspiring days, you will join portrait photographer and Sony Ambassador Sandra Hallnor as she takes you to some of her favorite locations in the Scottish Highlands. Together, you will visit carefully selected spots where iconic views meet hidden gems—handpicked to give you the best possible conditions to create outstanding portraits in which people and nature interact.
The journey begins in Glencoe, Scotland’s iconic valley, which—with its dramatic landscapes and powerful history—offers an experience that both inspires and moves you. With Sandra’s guidance, you will learn how to make the most of your equipment and understand how preparation, light, landscape, and editing work together to create a strong image.
Sandra will guide you in everything from using your gear effectively to understanding how preparation, light, environment, and post-processing shape an image. You will receive support in finding the right locations and using light and composition to bring your ideas to life and tell compelling stories—whether you are an experienced photographer or just beginning your journey.

GLENCOE
GLENCOE
For a photographer, Glencoe is more than just a destination—it is a place where light, form, and history merge into pure works of art. The landscape is dramatic yet serene, with open expanses, mirror-like lochs, and steep mountains rising from the valleys like ancient guardians. Everything shaped by glaciers and volcanic activity millions of years ago.
Light is the key here. In the morning, mist lies thick over the moorlands and streams, creating an enchanting, almost magical atmosphere. When the sun breaks through, everything changes—the colors deepen, the mountains cast long shadows, and the reflections in the water come alive. It is a landscape that demands patience, but rewards you with moments you will never forget.
It is no coincidence that films such as Skyfall and Harry Potter were filmed here. Glencoe carries a visual power found in few other places—every view feels like a cinematic frame, rich with emotion and story.

ITINERARY
ITINERARY
3-7 NOVEMBER 2026
PLEASE NOTE: The program and hiking within the parks may be adjusted depending on weather and wind conditions, in order to maximize photographic opportunities.
DAY 1, (3/11) – WELCOME TO SCOTLAND
We meet at Edinburgh Airport at 10:00 AM, where you will be welcomed by Sandra Hallnor and a host from Zoom Fotoresor. This is where our adventure begins—we leave the bustle of the city behind and travel through the vast Highlands, with mist-covered mountains and mirror-like lochs slowly passing by outside the window. If the weather allows, we will make one or several photo stops along the way.
Upon arrival at The Isles of Glencoe Hotel****, located by the lake Loch Linnhe and near to Glencoe, you will check in and have some time to settle in before we gather for a shared dinner. During the evening, we will go through the program for the trip and talk about how to best work with models in these unique environments. The focus will be on understanding how the landscape can enhance the story within an image, and how we create strong atmosphere through light, composition, and interaction with the model. (D)
DAY 2-4, (4-6/11) – PHOTOGRAPHING IN THE HIGHLANDS
Over three intensive and inspiring days, we take advantage of the best light and photograph during both sunrise and sunset, as well as in between—when mist hangs low or the light is filtered through dramatic clouds.
We explore portrait photography in some of Scotland’s most impressive landscapes—from dramatic mountain formations and rushing waterfalls to historic castle ruins and iconic viewpoints. You will have the opportunity to work with the interaction between model and environment, and learn how light, composition, and surroundings can strengthen the narrative in your images.
Between shoots, we combine hands-on guidance with individual feedback and a joint editing session, where you will gain insight into Sandra’s workflow in Lightroom and Photoshop. You will learn how to analyze and refine your images by adjusting color, light, and shadows—as well as how to use more artistic approaches to enhance the fairytale-like mood in your portraits.
Beyond the photography itself, this is also an opportunity to grow creatively within a small group of like-minded photographers, sharing experiences, inspiration, and knowledge.
On our final evening together, we enjoy a farewell dinner. Sandra will also select the “Image of the Trip”, which will advance to the final of Årets Bild 2026 and compete for attractive prizes. (B, D)
DAY 5 (7/11) – DEPARTURE / RETURN HOME
After a few intense, inspiring, and rewarding days, it is time to head back toward Edinburgh. We reflect on our experiences and, through the car window, take one last look at the mysterious and dramatic Highlands we have captured through our lenses.
We arrive at Edinburgh Airport at approximately 3:00 PM, and you travel home with a portfolio full of unique images, new insights, and a creative energy that will stay with you long after the journey. (B)
