LOFOTEN WINTER MAGIC
WITH PHOTOGRAPHER SERKAN GÜNES

Lofoten offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Experiencing it during the winter season makes it even more special. The light and the scenery take on a completely different character compared to summer. Take the opportunity to join me and a small group of photographers to experience the magic of Lofoten in winter.
Serkan Günes
Lofoten, where the sea meets the steep mountains, stands out as one of the world’s most impressive and beautiful landscapes. Here, in the midst of nature’s grandeur, the light interacts with the dramatic cliffs and the ever-changing weather. For landscape photographers, Lofoten constantly offers new opportunities to capture the magic of nature.
The picturesque fishing villages bring life and color, adding an extra dimension to the already magnificent scenery. The beautifully situated sandy beaches nestled between the mountains, together with the rugged and mighty rocky coastlines, provide an endless variety of photographic subjects. Every viewpoint reveals new motifs, with the landscape continuously transforming depending on the time of day and weather conditions.
When winter sweeps across Lofoten, the landscape transforms into something even more dramatic and breathtaking. Snow lays a soft blanket over the otherwise harsh cliffs, while the cold air and strong winds enhance the sense of grandeur. It is during this time that the silence of nature feels most profound, and beauty reaches its peak.
This unforgettable journey is led by the award-winning landscape photographer Serkan Günes, whose sensitivity to the soul of the landscape and deep passion for Lofoten make him the perfect guide for this trip. During our days together, we will visit some of Lofoten’s most iconic locations, but also discover Serkan’s personal favorites – those special places he has captured with his camera and that carry a unique, personal magic.

DESTINATION
LOFOTEN
North of the Arctic Circle and off the coast of the northern Norwegian towns of Narvik and Bodø lies the Lofoten archipelago. People have lived in Lofoten since ancient times, largely due to the rich abundance of fish. Each year, large numbers of cod migrate from the Barents Sea to spawn in these waters, thanks to the “warm” currents of the Gulf Stream.
Visitors from near and far come to experience Lofoten’s beauty. Many choose to stay in rorbuer—traditional fishermen’s cabins built on stilts over the water. These historic cabins have been carefully restored over the years to meet modern comfort standards, and many new ones have also been built. Lofoten is a paradise for tourists, especially in the summer when the nights are bright. From late May to mid-July, the midnight sun can be seen in all its glory.
The spectacular landscape has long attracted visual artists—both painters and photographers—as well as writers. This is a place where inspiration is never in short supply.
Lofoten is made up of the outer islands Austvågøy, Vestvågøy, Flakstadøy, and Moskenesøy, which are now connected to each other and the mainland by a series of bridges and tunnels. Further out in the Norwegian Sea lie the two inhabited islands of Værøy and Røst.

ITINERARY
ITINERARY
17-22 FEBRUARY, 2026
PLEASE NOTE! The daily schedule may be adjusted based on weather conditions, in order to maximize photographic opportunities.
DAY 1 (17/2) – WELCOME T0 LOFOTEN
You will meet Serkan Günes, who will guide us through the dramatic landscapes of Lofoten, at Harstad-Narvik Airport in Evenes around 11:00 AM. From there, a scenic bus journey of approximately three hours awaits before we arrive in Leknes and check in at Scandic Hotel, our base for the duration of the trip.
After checking in, we’ll head out into the surroundings of Leknes for our first photography session of the journey. The area around Leknes is among the most beautiful in all of Lofoten, and already on the first day, we’ll have the opportunity to capture the landscape in the magical light of the sunset.
Back at the hotel, a delicious welcome dinner will be served. If we’re lucky with the weather, there may also be an opportunity after dinner to head out again and photograph the Northern Lights in one of the most stunning regions on Earth.

DAY 2-5 (18-21/2) – PHOTOGRAPHY AROUND LOFOTEN
During your stay in Lofoten, Serkan Günes will take you to some of his personal favorite locations. The dramatic meeting of ocean and steep mountain peaks makes this area one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world—long cherished by photographers from across the globe. The weather changes frequently, allowing the light to interact with the cliffs and sea in new and fascinating ways, offering endless opportunities for incredible images.
Beautifully situated sandy beaches between the mountains and rugged, dramatic coastlines create a boundless variety of photographic subjects—from the serene church by the beach to Haukland, often referred to as Norway’s most beautiful beach.
Throughout the trip, Serkan will be by your side, offering personal guidance, tips, and feedback. Having access to such an accomplished photographer throughout the journey fills each day with inspiration and provides you with a wealth of photographic perspectives.
We’ll also have several hands-on sessions in the field, where, with the stunning surroundings in front of our lenses, we’ll explore different approaches to image creation. At Vareid, you’ll once again be reminded of the breathtaking and dramatic coastline that surrounds us. With long exposures, you can create striking images of the water crashing against the rocks—just as we will at many other locations throughout the trip.
In some areas, the restless sea adds an extra dimension to your compositions, while in others, if the weather is kind, you might capture clouds and mountains beautifully reflected in calm, mirror-like waters.
Of course, we’ll also visit some of Lofoten’s most iconic locations. In Reine, for example, we’ll photograph the famous red cabins that stand in vivid contrast against the towering mountain backdrop—one of the most iconic views of the archipelago.
When we’re not out photographing, we’ll continue working on our images at the computer, with editing tips in Lightroom. We’ll also have group image reviews, where Serkan will provide constructive critique and valuable advice to help take your photography to the next level.
On our final evening, Serkan will select the “Image of the Trip”, which will automatically move on to the finals of the “Photograph of the Year 2026” competition.
