ISLE OF SKYE

Isle of Skye is one of the top locations in Scotland to visit. It is famous for its scenery and landscapes that will take your breath away. Skye’s most majestic geological features, such as the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and the Cuillin are world re-known and places we will visit on this tour. The Isle of Skye is almost 80 km long, and its coastline is so deeply indented that no part is more than 8 km from the sea. The Cuillin Hills, reaching an elevation of 993 meters above sea level, dominate the landscape in south-central Skye. North of the capital Portree, where we will have our base during this workshop, is the curious basaltic group of pinnacles at Storr, the most remarkable of which is the Old Man of Storr, a landmark for sailors.

TOUR ITINERARY

TOUR ITINERARY

FEBRUARY 16-19, 2023

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL & LECTURE
Late in the afternoon we gather at our hotel in small village of Portree where you are met and greeted by Jeremy Walker and a host from Zoom Photo Tours. Before dinner Jeremy will do a location briefing for the coming days. He will also give you tips and advice on what you should think about when we are out on location. The evening will end up with a dinner. (M)

DAY 2-3 – PHOTOGRAPHING AROUND ISLE OF SKYE
The program would be subject to change when taking into account the weather and tides. Due to this the day by day program can be changed. We therefore present the photo highlights during the tour and not what day we will be visiting them. A general rule of thumb is that we would be covering all the ‘must see’ locations on Skye. Jeremy will be there to help you with personal guidance when we are out photographing and but also help you during photo editing and to give you constructive criticism on your photos as well as general photo chat in the bar.. Lunches will be served at the hotel or as a packed lunch. All dinner will be served at the hotel. (B, L, D)

Photo locations during those days:

The area around the village Sligachan with Sligachan Old Bridge, the River Sligachan and the waterfalls. Evening/sunset on the road above Sligachan with the White Cottage and small lochan and Cuillin Hills as a back drop.

The stunning Cuillin Hills and it´s a range of rocky mountains.

Visit to the ruins of St Mary’s Church dramatically located in the rolling countryside.

Neist Point Lighthouse where we will shoot from behind and below using unique rock stacks. We will shoot from the foot of the cliffs in the evening light and during sunset.

As a part of the Trotternish ridge the high cliffs of Quiraing has been formed by a landslide creating a spectacular landscape that has made it the perfect place for landscape photographers.

Fairy Pools waterfalls with the Cuillin Hills as a back drop.

The old ruined boats at Loch Harport. This is tide dependent.

Talisker Bay for sunset shooting but also to shoot the unique black and white sands during daylight hours. Again, this is tide dependent.

The tiny harbour at Elgol. The views across the bay to the Cuillin are stunning. In Elgol we will also do late afternoon/sunset shooting on the beach and rocky headland.

The Old Man of Storr. This is ‘the’ classic shot of the Isle of Skye. It is a long and strenuous walk that takes about one and a half hours to get there. The reward for the hard work is one of the most fantastic views on the island if not in Scotland.

The ruins of Duntulm Castle, perched high on a sheer cliff. On the way stop to shoot across Loch Leathan for a distant view of the Old Man of Storr with reflections.

The beautiful falls of Rha and the stunning landscape around Fairy Glen

DAY 4 – MORGNING PHOTOGRAPHY & EDITING
In the early morning we will do our last photo session at the Cuillin Hills before we return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast we will gather in the conference room, for a Q&A session before we say our farewells and depart. (B)

After getting home and have had time to do some editing you send your two best images of the workshop, which will be judges by Jeremy. The winner will be presented in the Amateur Photographer magazine.
