From my very first visit, I knew this was a place I wanted to return to. The birdlife is extraordinary — and the crown jewel is the many species of curious penguins, which you can often approach surprisingly close.

The Falkland Islands – a unique, untouched paradise for bird photographers
Imagine standing alone in the dawn light, the wind carrying the scent of salt and seaweed from the ocean, as a landscape unfolds before you — one that could just as easily belong to another era. Here, in the Falkland Islands — 500 kilometers out in the Atlantic Ocean from the southern tip of South America — unforgettable photographic experiences await.
With over 200 bird species — from the majestic albatrosses soaring above the dramatic coastal cliffs to caracarasposing curiously against the backlight — these islands offer a constant stream of inspiration. Yet it’s the penguins that often steal the show.
Photographing king penguins in the soft evening light feels like stepping straight into the pages of National Geographic— they stand there in golden rows, proud and still. Gentoo penguins dash playfully across the beaches, rockhoppersleap between boulders, and Magellanic penguins peek from their burrows with surprisingly expressive eyes. Here, you don’t just capture images — you capture moments.
The rugged landscape is a dream come true for nature photographers: vast moorlands, wind-swept grasslands, shimmering seas, and sheer cliffs teeming with nesting birds. And perhaps most magical of all — the wildlife here is curious yet unafraid. You’ll often find yourself so close that you can shoot with a standard lens and still achieve intimate portraits.
The journey is carefully designed to maximize time in the field. We’ve selected a number of unique locations offering the very best the Falkland Islands have to offer — both in terms of wildlife and landscape. Here, you’ll have the time to slow down, wait for the perfect light, and truly work with your images.
Whether you’re an enthusiastic amateur or a seasoned professional photographer, the Falkland Islands will capture your heart.
This is an exclusive trip for only four participants, led by award-winning bird photographer Jonas Classon. Jonas will be with you throughout the journey — offering personal guidance, giving lectures, assisting with post-processing, and sharing tips and insights as you review each other’s work.
