ITINERARY • Sep 16-18, 2022
DAY 1 –INTRODUCTION
After lunch we meet at Hotel Fagerudd just outside Enköping where we are welcomed by Philip Lee Harvey and a host from Zoom Fotoresor. We start the day in the conference room where Philip gives us an introduction to filming with a DSLR camera. We start by going through equipment and Philip tells us what we can create with everything from just a camera and a lens to the different creative possibilities different lenses can provide. He will also go over what we can do with some extra equipment such as gimbals, accessories that provide flexibility and increase the production value in our filmmaking. (M)
DAY 2-3 – LIGHTING & COMPOSITION
In the coming days, we will delve into how to make great movies with our DSLR camera and he will share tips and tricks.
No matter how good our video looks, bad sound can ruin the experience for the viewer. Philip will give us the tips and tricks on how to create professional sound from using a lapel microphone during interviews to other solutions that will allow you to get the right sound in every situation.
Once we get to know the equipment, we switch our cameras to video mode and start exploring a whole new dimension of creativity that the camera offers. With live demonstrations, Philip goes through different settings for filming from how different apertures affect to how we can use different framerates to create visual effects such as slow motion. He will also go through two of the most important components of film making, lighting and composition. As well as the different resolutions and the advantages they can bring when editing our material. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussions as we delve into the world of video. Different customers require different types of creation and we will therefore go through everything from how to create a professional production on your own to different interview techniques and how we can effectively use both music and voice over.
With his experience working with everything from small to large customers around the world, Philip takes us through the process of taking an idea and getting it ready to be realized in camera.
One of the things we will learn during the days together is how to create a story board, a story board is one of the useful tools to know what and in what order we are going to film to realize our vision.
To give us a good understanding of how we can work with Storyboards in the creative process, Philip will show Storyboards that he has created for customers and then compare it with the end result. From close-ups to view images or by adding movements, we will learn the basics of how to visually build an interesting story that captures the viewer’s interest and conveys the right message.
Filled with inspiration, it’s time to get creative, by working in pairs we will now get to create our own Storyboards. Not only do we have Storyboard templates but also Philips feedback as he helps us with personal tutorials, tips and advice in the creation. With our Storyboards ready, we head out into the surroundings and start filming the scenes that will eventually become a finished result. Weather, changing lighting conditions and timing, when filming there is a lot that does not go as planned and circumstances we can not influence. Having worked as one of the world’s leading travel photographers, this is something Philip knows very well and he will show us how to work with the conditions we have and change the storyboard based on this, but at the same time create a result that follows our basic vision. With the video material on our hard drives, Philip will introduce us to the basics of video editing and how to put a plan for its editing. On Sunday afternoon after lunch we end our days together to continue our filmmaking on our own. (F, L M)
