MY CHICAGO
WITH WORLD REKNOWN STREET PHOTGRAPHER MATS ALFREDSSON

Let me show you my Chicago. Follow me across the many beautiful iron bridges in downtown, walk beneath the 100-year-old elevated train, take in the breathtaking view from the 96th floor of the Hancock Building, and end the evening in an authentic blues club.
Mats Alfredsson
Chicago is a city shrouded in legend. Naturally, thoughts drift to the gangster wars of the 1930s, with Mr. Capone at the helm. But for me, as a street photographer, I have created my own unique image of this city. I have traveled to this incredibly beautiful and exciting place twenty times, meeting so many warm, open, and welcoming people.
I have had the privilege of visiting Chicago no fewer than twenty times, and each time, I discover something new—something that captivates me. I have met so many amazing people, open and friendly, who, in some way, reflect the soul of the city. Walking through downtown Chicago has become a ritual. I have walked these streets countless times, watching the skyline slowly transform from the morning mist to the colors of the sunset. I have been fascinated by the iconic iron bridges stretching across the river—reminders of the city’s industrial heritage, yet timeless and almost magical when seen in the evening light.
The Loop, with its quiet yet undeniable charm, is always worth a visit. The elevated train, winding through the city, built more than a hundred years ago, continues to evoke both nostalgia and a sense of forward motion. I have stood in blues clubs at night, listening to the music—music that keeps the city’s rich cultural heritage alive.
And then there is Andersonville, a neighborhood that holds an even more personal history for me. Walking its streets feels like discovering a piece of Sweden in the middle of an American metropolis. It was here, over a century ago, that Swedish immigrants settled, creating a home far from home. It is a place that not only breathes history but also exudes warmth and a soul that reminds me of the old world—yet with a Chicago twist.
All of this—the fascinating blend of old and new, the power of industry and the deep roots of culture—is what I want to share. Chicago has become my own Gotham City, a place that never ceases to fascinate, inspire, and touch my heart. It is a city that is constantly changing, yet always remains the same—and that is precisely why it will always have a place in my heart.

CHICAGO
Chicago is one of the most dynamic and exciting cities in the United States, known for its impressive skyline, rich culture, and vibrant neighborhoods. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the city offers a perfect blend of modern architecture, historic districts, and a lively urban atmosphere. The city’s history dates back to 1833 when it was founded as a small trading post. Chicago quickly grew into one of the most important cities in the U.S., thanks to its strategic location along the river and as a major railway hub. Despite the devastating Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the city rose from the ashes and was rebuilt with groundbreaking architecture that laid the foundation for the modern skyscraper. Today, you can explore iconic landmarks such as Willis Tower, Millennium Park with The Bean, and the historic “L” elevated train. Chicago is also a haven for food lovers, offering everything from world-famous deep-dish pizza to trendy restaurants. We will spend two days in this district, as there is so much to discover and photograph. Mats will be available throughout the day to provide tips and advice for capturing the perfect moment. On this first day, we focus mainly on photographing under and around the “L” elevated train. Nowhere else does the city’s vibrant pulse feel as alive. The evening ends at one of Chicago’s authentic blues clubs.
