COUNTRY: England    PHOTO TYPE: Birds   TRIP LENGTH: 3 days   GROUP SIZE: 6-12 guests   DATES: 10-12/6 2022   PRICE: £ 750

Take the chance to join award-winning bird photographer David Tipling and Amateur Photographer magazine at Bempton Cliffs in June 2022. This world-class seabird breeding colony is a bird photographer’s paradise, being home to half a million seabirds, among them the iconic puffin.

During the workshop David will be on hand to show you how to get the most out of photographing this spectacular seabird colony. Gannets hang in the wind sometimes within touching distance while the cliffs teem with guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes. Viewing platforms allow for some excellent photographic opportunities. We will be making the most of the magical light Bempton offers by visiting early in the morning and evening. Weather permitting, we will also take a boat out into the North Sea to photograph diving gannets and hopefully auks including puffins in flight and on the water. David, with his many years of experience, will be there to help you with personal guidance out in the field, and constructive criticism of your photos to give you tips and advice on them.

DESTINATION INFO

DESTINATION INFO

BEMPTON CLIFFS

The chalk cliffs of Bempton Cliffs are an ideal habitat for a huge range of seabirds. During summer when the seabird breeding season is in full swing nearly half a million seabirds cling to the cliffs. Breeding tree sparrows, whitethroats, corn buntings, skylarks, linnets, and meadow pipits can all be seen and, if we are fortunate, barn owls and peregrine falcons. A range of the more common butterflies may be seen on sunny days, along with day-flying moths such as cinnabars, burnet moths. Trailside flora is dominated by red campion.

TOUR ITINERARY

TOUR ITINERARY • JUNE 10 -12, 2022

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL, LECTURE & PHOTOGRAPHY
You will arrive at our hotel in Bridlington in the afternoon, to be greeted by David Tipling and a host from Zoom Photo Tours. The workshop will start with an inspiring lecture by David who will show you photos from some of the locations we will be visiting during this workshop as well as giving you tips and advice on how to take photos in various conditions and at different times during the day. All this in order to help you to improve your photo skills. After an inspirational lecture we head out to the cliffs for our first photography session. Here you will be met by hundreds of thousands of nesting seabirds such as the much-loved puffin, kittiwakes, gannets, guillemots and razorbills. During all photo sessions David will be available for individual questions and at the same time help you to improve your photography. We will conclude our day with a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)

DAY 2 – PHOTOGRAPH FROM BOAT AND LAND
We hope, if sea conditions allow, to venture out this morning from Bridlington on a boat trip to photograph diving gannets and auks both in flight and on the sea below the cliffs. After lunch and some time off to download pictures from the morning or to rest, we will go out again mid afternoon to the cliffs. You can get close to the action from six, safe cliff-edge viewing platforms. It is an amazing place where you will be able to see and photograph some amazing encounters and have time to practice how to photograph birds in flight and at really close range. Throughout the day David will be around for individual questions and to show you the best photo spots Bempton has to offer. When we are not out in the field photographing, there will be time to look at pictures and get feedback from David. (B, L, D)

DAY 3 – MORGNING PHOTOGRAPHY & EDITING
During the early morning we will do a last photo session at Bempton Cliffs followed by breakfast and photo editing. David will sit with you and guide you in how to handle the images. After lunch David will appoint the best image of the trip, which will be published in Amateur Photographer magazine. (B, L)
