Moving into the world of bird photography can be a daunting prospect. During this workshop award-winning wildlife photographer Tesni Ward will show you tips and techniques of bird photography, to help you improve your images and become a better photographer.

This workshop, under the guidance of photographer Tesni Ward, is designed for those who are new to bird photography and want to develop their knowledge and understanding of this genre. The workshop will be focused around easy to shoot subjects, both wild and domestic, to give you the greatest opportunities throughout the day to develop and improve. With more than 35 species of waterfowl it will allow you to develop an extensive portfolio in a short space of time. Tesni will be there to help you with personal guidance out in the field, lectures, and constructive criticism on your photos.

Hidden away in a quiet town north of Uttoxeter is an unexpected gem for wildlife lovers, birders and photographers. Two picturesque lakes boast numerous native and exotic waterfowl, giving you a unique opportunity to capture an extensive portfolio in a short period of time. It’s rare for such an urban location to boast such a sheer number and variety of wildlife and many wild birds call these lakes home due to the fantastic habitat and care that goes into maintaining the area.

TOUR ITINERARY • MAY 6-8, 2022

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL, LECTURE & PHOTOGRAPHY
You will arrive at our hotel in Gillingham in the afternoon, and you will be greeted by Tesni Ward and a host from Zoom Photo Tours. Tesni will begin the workshop with an inspiring lecture about bird photography and what you can expect during the photo sessions. She will give you tips and advice on how best to photograph in various conditions. We will then head out for the first photo session. Here you will have the opportunity to photograph 35+ different species of waterfowl and hundreds of birds.

During all photo sessions Tesni will be available for individual questions and at the same time help you to improve your photo skills. We will conclude our day with a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)

DAY 2 – Bird photography, editing and feedback. 
During the day we will be focusing on bird photography combined with photo editing look at pictures and get feedback from Tesni on your photos. She will be also be available during the day for individual questions and to give you tips and advice. (B, L, D)

DAY 3 – MORGNING PHOTOGRAPHY & EDITING
Our last morning, we will do a last photo session followed by breakfast and photo editing. Tesni will instruct you in how to edit the images.

After lunch she will appoint the best image of the workshop, which will be presented in Amateur Photographer magazine. (B, L)

TESNI WARD

Tesni Ward is an award-winning, professional wildlife photographer and Olympus Ambassador based on the outskirts of the Peak District. Having had an interest for both nature and photography all her life she finally took the step and became a fulltime photographer in 2016.  While the majority of her work focuses on British wildlife, she also photographs projects across the world. With her images and work as a photographer she wants to promote conservation and to educate the public on the struggles wildlife faces and what we can do as induviduals to help project the many species currently under threat from human activity. She often holds lectures and  writes for various publications, including Amateur Photographer, and she has won accolades in both the British Wildlife Photography Awards and the Terre Sauvage Nature Images Awards.

In order for you to get personal photo guidance and the best experience with our expert photographer, our groups are always small. On this workshop, the minimum and maximum number of guests are 8 / 15.

PHOTO GEAR

  • Telephoto lens of at least 300mm
  • Mid-size lens like a 70-200mm
  • A tripod or a monopod (this is not essenstial)
  • Extra batteriers, chargers etc
  • Rain cover for the camera
  • A laptop computer with any of the Photoshop or Lightroom software

TOUR LEADER

Apart from an award winning photographer, our tours are always accompanied by a tour leader from Zoom with good photo knowledge. Our tour leader will handle all logistics and general matters and make sure you are having the best possible experience during the workshop.
